Dancing at the Grafton
Days of Big Band Sound
Geraldo, Joe Loss
wail of saxophones, clarinets;
revolving lights dapple
full-skirted dresses.
Girls fringe the floor
alert for the invitation
‘D’ya wanna dance?’
Glide into a waltz
as light as if on ice.
Tangos, foxtrots – extra credit
for a smart telemark
with a wing finish
in tune with the music.
Most limp home
transport a luxury.
But the dream, intact, remains.
Another day tomorrow!
